Getting started

I installed Essentials but I can't find it.

After installing, click Firefox's puzzle-piece Extensions icon. Open the menu next to Essentials and choose Pin to Toolbar.

How do I add a site?

How do I rename, edit, or remove an essential?

FAQ

Which browsers does Essentials support?

This edition runs in Firefox and Zen on desktop (Windows, macOS, and Linux). Zen is a Firefox-based browser, so the Firefox edition installs in it directly. There are also dedicated Chrome and Safari editions. Find the right one via the Firefox / Chrome / Safari switcher in the site header. Each edition is a separate one-time purchase.

What do I need to run Essentials?

Firefox or Zen on desktop (Windows, macOS, or Linux).

Can I export my essentials?

Yes. Open Essentials Settings → Sync tab → Export JSON… under Manual. You get a JSON file you can re-import in another desktop Firefox installation or keep as a backup.

I'm seeing the wrong favicon for a site.

Right-click the tile and pick Replace icon… to upload your own image (PNG, JPEG, WebP, or SVG). Your choice syncs to desktop Firefox installations using the same Mozilla account and sticks until you reset it. Auth-walled sites and brand-redirected hosts sometimes hand us a generic icon. This is the cleanest fix.

To revert to the auto-resolved icon, right-click and pick Reset icon. Some sites also serve different icons to different browsers; the one we see first wins.

Sync isn't working in my second Firefox installation.

Essentials sync is enabled by default. Check the Sync tab in Essentials Settings on both desktop Firefox installations. Both must use the same Mozilla account with Add-ons sync enabled, and the Essentials toggle has to remain on. Firefox normally synchronizes extension data about every ten minutes or when you choose Sync Now.

Is there a Safari or Chrome version?

Yes. Essentials for Safari is available on the Mac App Store for macOS 14+, and Essentials for Chrome runs in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, and Vivaldi. Find all editions via the Firefox / Chrome / Safari switcher in the site header.
